With the Impending Major Winter Storm Brewing this weekend across the southern half of the United States many may question the difference between precipitation and the type they will receive in there local area. The difference on a few degrees in the atmosphere can be the difference between Snow, Sleet (Both Snow and Sleet are manageable and drivable still can have some road problems but we would prefer the Snow and if we get Ice Sleet is the better option), Freezing Rain (That's the terrible kind it's some of the worst weather in winter leads to major ICE Storms so we don't want that), and Rain (Run the mill liquid). This chart here explains the difference between the different types of precipitation. Comment if you'd like to know more for your specific area or region on what's expected.
