Why Hyperlocal Media is better and Depletion is a threat.

Local Journalism as we know it is in danger. With the continued shut down of local publications continued increase in consolidation and pushes for deregulation we have never been at a high threat for hyperlocal news. Local Institutions have the highest trust values for your specific areas, that means you would rather listen to information from someone in your backyard rather than someone 1,500 miles away who can't even pronounce your town. When me and our Chief Media Officer @ColeAlbert attended the Local media conference by The Reinventing Local TV News Project we heard some pretty accurate claims from different Media Corporate executives. One that stuck with me was "There will likely be a decline in more local and community based newsrooms in the next few years. Consolidation is bound to happen more especially with deregulation which would be a big slap to the consumer. That means our jobs are on the line and innovation within the community is the only way to fight the threat." Now based on this quote you can see that this means you local newsroom, newspaper, favorite local blog will most likely if not already shutdown or Corp. owned it will be sooner rather than later. This is a major threat to how you get accurate information with you community, it will make it harder the more things switch hands to keep up with the different versions and different agendas the larger owners have and the threats to independent publications to sell or be shuttered. In this insight we know based on the current market that over 70% of average people don't trust many outlets for news especially on the national level. Yet the have a little bit of a higher trust with local information they receive especially with clear and concise insight. Unfortunately, this is only part of the issue the other part is shuttering and stopping the printing of many smaller newspapers. Users in these areas are now in News Deserts as many don't have any other trusted sources in mainly rural areas to get community, major, important news other than these independent publications. News Deserts could get worse within the next 10 years as more consolidation is likely. Just compare 2015 to 2025 with 2015 having 35+ media companies to now in 2025 to 30 we've dropped and as years go on the problem will get worse and worse. This is the main reason we built this platform, our team wants these hyper local stories to have a place where they can and will be shared. This is the First Planet Media Insight we will officially launch Planet and it's services in January 2026 expect much more media innovation from the Planet Team here. (Planet is Owned by Wesley Star System Holdings. a subsidiary of Wesley/PlanetStar/Star LLC. which also owns this platform (Shine) and our parent company that powers it The Wesley Star Company. All information is subjected to change in future insights and media consultation posts.)
