A Question for Today’s Discussion: The AI Resistance
This is something I've been realizing as of late. How many Gen Z'ers reccent graduations and such have been pushing back on AI and Automation. I think that is fair especially when Tech CEO's continuiously push that it will replace the need for work in the Gen Z'ers lifetimes which means no need to hire them because the myth is AI will make them so much money but these same CEOs say it could "Lead to the end of Humanity" who says that about their own technology and then is happy to profit from it.
The viral videos online of Google/Alphabet Co-Founder and Former CEO Larry Page and others from reccent commencment speeches shows how the Gen Z's and even most of the public feels about the current AI Epidemic and the deregulation here in the United States (other countries across the world like China and the European Union have strict regulations on AI products and more). This comes as Google has annouced a ton of new AI feautures at their latest Google I/O confrence and one of those new features was updating search in the near future with nothing but AI responses. In the current world where slop is flooding the internet, hurting people in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennesse, and leading to people losing energy in Neveda (due to a data center) it appears what some of the CEOs are saying about the harms are already happening and because of a corrupt government and no regulation these things don't matter to them as long as they continue to make a profit.
My Question has always been what happens if the future they want this Terminator dystopia (reminder these CEOs and Billionares already have underground compounds and bunkers) actually is allowed to happen and the government of the United States doesn't stop this. Well it appears Gen Z is starting the resistance to this terrible idea. I think we all missed the 2000s and 2010s technology days where it felt as if the companies and CEOs carred about their consumers and had genuine new innovations releasing that benefited humanity and Mother Earth. We are far from those days as most of these CEOs want to continue their Capitalist Agenda and it has become the battle not of Left vs. Right (that's what they want you to think) or Republican vs. Democrat but the fight of the Haves and the Have Nots. This is what it has always been about control, money, and power. Gen Z is not going to stand for that as many of them are still in their Teens and now 20s to them adulthood just started but it is too expensive to live alone, too expensive to buy a car, too expensive to have kids (so of course they don't want any no matter the current United States Propaganda about that), the gas prices are too hight, grocies have skyrocketted, the overall cost of living is just too expensive for them and they are not having this. I have also noticed that Gen Z loves older technologies from the 1980s or many are going more analogue (e-ink devices and bringing back things like Sony Walkman's or Apple iPods specifically the iPod Nanos, iPod Shuffles, and iPod Classics or even Digital Camera's). I think many want to get rid of the phone and social media sometimes because unlike 10 years ago (2016) there are not as many third places anymore; many things have lost their idenity and color and have greyed out. Was this a glimpse of the plan and the current dystopia we're in right now?
