Gerrymandering Hypocrisy: Supreme Court Decimates the Voting Rights Act

The Voting Rights Act was introduced to remove the Jim Crow Discrimination against black and brown people at the ballot box. History shows us that when you get rid of the minority vote realize they are the minority but do the best for the majority. Now we come to a 6-3 ruling by the Supreme Court which the conservative majority struck down the Louisiana redistricting which is majority Black and Brown and called it unfair and unconstitutional. Now this is a major hypocrisy because in Texas (10 months ago) and also Florida (This Month) there has been new maps approved to give republicans more of an edge and reduce the black, brown, and Latino representation. This Gerrymandering War is already backfiring as even a judge in Virginia struct down and blocked their recent attempt to redistrict. This is a way to try and keep power in this failing administration and many in the MAGA republican space, the overarching goal is to cheat in the midterms which likely isn’t going to happen. This is the same playbook laid out in the Project 2025 manifesto which has been happening for awhile (many things have happened some stopped and others not). But the big problem is now that the Supreme Courts Conservative majority just opened the floodgates of years of corruption that was stopped and more than 60 years of protections for minorities. The liberal dissent discussed the major impacts this will have for voters of color on voting on all of these changes to limit their rights, representation, and how the ruling will effect all levels of government from low end to high end. Justice Elena Kagan said “the Court’s decision will set back the foundational right Congress granted of racial equality in electoral opportunity.” Justice Alito (Conservative Majority) did say the case can be turned back to the lower courts for more additional proceedings. There are certain things the conservative justices did not mention such as clauses that could confuse or cause panic and chaos related to elections and voting. These changes could show the corruption that the GOP currently has and the whole idea mentioned in the Jeff Bezos owned The Washington Post that the Democrats “Cried over Gerrymandering” is a sack of nonsense. Some states in the United States don’t even have democratic representation in the house with seats such as Arkansas, Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Utah. The idea that republicans are underrepresented or even marginalized is a myth and we as the Citizens are getting tired of this ridiculous notion. We have so much to pay attention to and if we really believe in keeping our democracy and rights (although we know America isn’t really completely free which is why we should revisit our slogan of “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave”) we should be prepared for this to backfire on Republicans as much of their other attempts and agenda has failed thus far. The lower courts could likely strike this down and we will see what happens. Question of the day: How do you guys feel about this situation and what do you think about the propaganda being pushed by the government?
