A iconic number for Star but treated in the Americas as a number of unluckiness. On this rare occasion it being Friday the 13th many of our Star News Hubs history such as Star 13 Texas and Star Boston have large histories with the unlucky number. As the story goes when the original owners Lang Electric were sought to pick a flagship number the first 2 entities in Melbourne, FL and St. Cloud, MN used 41 so it was thought that that would move over to the larger market network idea the family had in the early 1900s. Instead they thought that 41 was too large of a number to go on mass tv stations so they decided to look into a number that "Pulsed" or is related to the working name brand they wanted to call the stations at some point in the not far too distant future (although it wasn't until the 1970s when Baldwin bought out Lang that the Star Network was actually officially formed). The research began, the Lang Family is of Asian descent and in Asian culture the Number 4 is considered unlucky while the number 13 is considered very lucky. The number 13 as pulsed as for branding with future news programs in the late 1960s many of the stations used "NewsPulse" which went well with the number 13 or Star 13 NewsPulse. The number was chosen but because of the superstition in American Culture Lang wanted to use it as it's stand out number for its future networks and on the flagships which will be in areas that are "large markets". The number rolled out in Texas, New York, California, Colorado, Ohio, and even to a 3rd party in Kansas and in the future under Baldwin Ownership in the 1990s a big realignment took place in other markets in Wisconsin, Florida, and 3rd Parties for increased news presence and that these markets were growing quite a lot but this also showcased how important the number is to Star's history and will be engrained going forward. The number has transformed Star with Star even renaming it's "Star Studios" and "Star Productions + Star Entertainment" divisions into one name called "Star 13 Entertainment" to signify that the 13 is important at times it was even thrown around even as recent as 2025 under Wesley/PlanetStar/Star ownership to unite all the Star News Local Owned Hubs into Star 13 as the branding for there news output each time it was struck down during Baldwin and Wesley Ownership eras. The number may be unlucky to many and especially with the date is on a Friday for fear of Jason V. heading for you, but yet here we are and Star finds how lucky it can be to Pulse with a number like 13 as the engrained historic identifier in modern and classic company history.
